Happy 2.5 years, Abigail!

On March 1, 2013 Abigail turned 2.5 years old! She had a well check with her pediatrician on Monday and she’s doing really well in all areas of development and even doing things that a 3 year old should be doing (according to the doctor).  This visit did not involve any shots and she actually won’t have to get anymore until she’s 4 (which I can’t imagine her actually turning 4, so I don’t think we’ll have to deal with those shots…)

Height – 34 in (15%)
Weight – 28lb 2oz (50%)
Head – 90%
Diaper – Totally done with these!
Clothing – All 2T but I expect she’ll be in 3T during the summer (at least in shirts and dresses)
Shoe – Size 6/7

Abigail’s day normally begins sometime between 7am and 8am (most of the time she wakes Charlotte up when she leaves the room but sometimes Charlotte keeps sleeping).  There was a couple of weeks at the beginning of the year when I thought that Abigail might be done with napping; there just was nothing I could do to get her to fall asleep in the afternoon. We found a little trick though that works maybe 50% of the time. I started laying down in her bed after putting Charlotte down for a nap and I make Abigail lay down with me for an hour.  Sometimes she falls asleep and sometimes she doesn’t, but its a nice little rest either way and it definitely works on those days when she really needs the nap.  Bedtime falls around 8pm now so that Charlotte has time to settle down before Abigail goes to bed. Abigail really enjoys being able to kiss Charlotte good night and then have some alone time with Daddy & Mommy.

I am amazed almost everyday by Abigail’s ability to communicate.  Abigail likes to tell stories about things that have happened to her or that she has seen happen.  I think one of my favorite things right now is when she asks Raymond how is day went at work or when she tries to console Charlotte after taking a toy away from her.  She LOVES to sing and has memorized quite a good number of songs (normal kids songs and hymns) that we sing around the house or that she hears in church.  Her favorite songs include Jesus Loves Me, Nothing but the Blood, In Christ Alone, He’s got the Whole World in His Hands, My God is so Big, and there are more but I can’t remember all of them right now. Abigail also loves to read and could easily sit for a couple of hours reading books with me.  She has memorized several books that we read regularly and I love listening to her “read” books to me :)  Abigail can also sing the ABC song and count to 10! Our plan is to start working on letter recognition next.

We’ve started allowing Abigail to watch a little bit of TV here and there.  We have The Little Einsteins, Anastasia, The Sound of Music, and Ella Enchanted that we rotate around.  She likes interacting with The Little Einsteins and singing along with The Sound of Music.  Sometimes when I ask her how old she is she likes to answer, “I am 16 going on 17.” :)

Potty training went really well!  She caught on super quick and is now completely out of diapers and into big girl panties.  In the middle of February we ran out of diapers for Abigail and I wasn’t able to get more before bedtime so we decided to see how the night would go without a diaper since she had been dry after waking up for quite a while.  The transition to panties at night went so easily!  The next morning she woke up and wasn’t able to make it to the potty fast enough, but after that she hasn’t had a single morning accident.

Finally, Abigail is still a really good eater.  She definitely has preferences and will accept fruit snacks/candy for all her meals if we let her, but she also eats pretty much everything we put in front of her.  We eat homemade pizza every Friday with broccoli and fruit and she normally devours the broccoli before eating anything else!

Happy 1st Birthday, Charlotte!

We no longer have babies in our house :( It was both a sad and happy day on February 11 but we are really excited to see Charlotte develop into a little girl in Abigail’s footsteps!

Here is an update on Charlotte’s development thus far in her life:

Weight – 17 lb (12%)
Height – 28.5 in (30%)
Head – 44.8 cm (50%)
Diaper –
Size 3/cloth
Clothing –
I have her in 12 month but they’re a little large

Here’s her schedule right now:

7:30 – 8:00 Wake up/Milk time
8:30 Eat breakfast (not her favorite meal so she doesn’t usually eat much)
9:30 If she went to bed late or doesn’t feel well then she’ll take a nap here for about an hour
Noon-ish Lunch time
1:00 Nap time (this nap usually lasts about 2.5-3 hours)
4:00 Small snack
5:30 Dinner
7:00 Begin bedtime routine (bath, Bible, singing)
7:30 In bed & asleep

Favorites – Bananas, yogurt, cheese (almost all food really), being chased, jumping on the couch, chewing on books/shoes, walking around with something in her mouth ALL OF THE TIME, bath time

Terrible Things About Life – Sharing with Abigail, not being held by Daddy when he comes home, having her diaper/clothes changed (seriously, the worst)

Charlotte might be petite but she is such a good eater! Breakfast is her least favorite meal of the day, but there are times during lunch and dinner when I almost feel like she would keep eating and eating as long as I kept putting food on her tray. I make some special little toddler foods for her but for the most part she eats everything that we eat, which makes meal times especially easy.

Most days are one-nap days now.  We typically have something to do in the mornings for at least half of the week, so its just easier for all days to exclude the morning nap.  She would totally still take both naps if I let her, but I get nervous that she’ll ruin her afternoon nap if she keeps taking morning naps :)

Charlotte started walking a couple of weeks before her first birthday.  For the last couple of months she would take a step here or there and she really love walking around while holding on to our fingers but now she pretty much prefers walking by herself and goes pretty long distances without falling!  I think the walking has helped her mood out a little bit.  She has been quite a bit fussier than Abigail was as a baby, but since she’s started walking I think she’s able to keep herself entertained a little better.

I don’t think you can see in any of the pictures, but Charlotte has 8 teeth! They are all of the front teeth and they are cute :)

I love it when Abigail and Charlotte interact well together. Abigail is getting better at sharing with Charlotte and being compassionate towards her. When Charlotte is upset, Abigail will sometimes say, “Its ok Charlotte” and pat her on the back or give her a kiss :) And my favorite is listening to them laugh at each other during car rides to church or the school.

Happy 5 Months, Charlotte!

This little girl is just growing up way too fast! She’s developing her motor skills quicker than Abigail did, so I guess that’s makes it seem like everything is going by faster too :)

Charlotte has been a little harder to figure out in the sleep department (I’ve probably mentioned that before…).  Right now she’s taking 2-3 naps a day.  There’s a long(ish) morning and afternoon nap and sometimes she need a catnap in the evening…sometimes not.  I put her down for bed about 7:30 or so and she sleeps straight through until 6:30 or 7 (sometimes she’ll even go back to sleep until 8 or 8:30).  I was doing a dreamfeed up until right after she turned 4 months, but she started waking up in the morning earlier and earlier so I decided to drop it and that seemed to fix the problem :) For the most part she sticks to a 3-hour eating schedule though she has been known to go 3.5 or 4 hours between feedings in the morning.

We haven’t started her on any baby food yet because there’s been no reason to, but I plan on starting next week with some kind of cereal and maybe a veggie just to get some good practice in.  And maybe that’ll help to space out her feeding times too.  I also secretly hope that I’ll find something to do that will make her sleep until 8 every morning because I really like getting good sleep…but I know that’s probably not going to happen.  I’m slowly resigning myself to the realization that Charlotte may just be an earlier riser than Abigail (*sigh*).

Charlotte is sitting up all by herself and she’s getting really close to crawling!  This didn’t happen with Abigail until she was 8 months old, but since Charlotte has somebody to keep up with and fight over toys with I guess she has to learn these things a little sooner :)

Here are some pictures from the past month:

Happy 4 Months!

Charlotte has been with us (extra-womb) for 4 months as of June 11.  The time has gone by so quickly but it seems like she’s been with us for a really long time already.  I guess that means that she’s an easy baby and the transition to 4 family members went smoothly!

We had her 4 month well visit yesterday.  Measurements were taken and shots were administered and the doctor concluded that we have a healthy, growing little girl :)

Height – 24 1/4 in (50%)

Weight – 12lb 11oz (25%)

Head – I don’t remember, but her head is in the 25th percentile

Diaper – size 2 & the comparably-sized cloth diaper

Clothing – mostly 3-6 month

Charlotte has been a little harder to figure out in the sleep department, but I think that has more to do with the fact that I have another one to run around after and I have to just do what I can as far as Charlotte goes.  She’s a great napper though, so I guess it balances itself out in the end.  Here’s a typical day for Charlotte:

6ish – wake up & nurse
715 (or a little over an hour later) – nap
9 – wake up & nurse
1015 –  nap
12 – wake up & nurse
115 – nap
230/3 – wake up & nurse
330/4 – nap
530 – wake up & nurse
730 – nurse & bed
Sometime between 10 & 11 – dreamfeed

So 6 in the morning is a little early for me…but it is what it is and maybe she’ll start waking up later when she gets a little older.  We’ve taken her completely off the swaddle and we used to have her sleeping on her belly, but she started rolling over from her stomach to her back and I didn’t want to go in there every 2 seconds to roll her back over so now she  has learned to sleep on her back :)  I also tried really hard to get her on the paci while she sleeps, but she’s just a natural thumb-sucker.  I’m not too big a fan, but I’m warming up to it :)

Charlotte is getting to be really social.  She loves being tickled and has the cutest little laugh! She also loves to buzz her lips and slobber everywhere.

Look at me!

A kiss from Daddy

We missed this stage with Abigail because she was swaddled for so long

Happy 18 Months!

We had Abigail’s 18-month well check in the middle of March..here are her stats!

Weight – 23lb (25-50%)

Height – 32.5in (25-50%)

Diaper – Size 4/cloth

Clothes – 18 & 24 month (2T works well in most bottoms because the cloth diapers add significant fluffiness to her booty)

Nothing much has changed about Abigail’s schedule since her last update; she still sleeps about 12 hours at night and takes a nap in the afternoon of at least 1.5 hrs (more like 2-2.5 hrs recently). I am very grateful that Abigail’s sleep wasn’t affected with the arrival of Charlotte (even though her mood was quite stinky for a couple of weeks!).  She also went through a few days of an eating strike (super frustrating!) but ever since then she’s been eating like a champ!

Her favorite foods include cheese, yogurt, bread, green beans, cheerios, granola, eggs, pasta…so she’s mostly a fan of everything we give her except for meat (though she does like lunch meat).  In a personal effort to eat healthier, I’ve been trying to come up with creative and healthy snacks since that’s a huge problem area for me!  So I bought some frozen edamame that was already shelled and roasted them in the oven with a little bit of parmesan cheese.  Abigail absolutely loved them! I love that she loves food, even healthy food :) I hope that we can instill healthy eating habits in these early years of her life so that she will easily try new foods and so that we won’t have an only hot dog and pizza eating child :)

Abigail’s vocabulary has EXPLODED!! It seems like she’s learning new words every day and has even started putting together sentences.
Here’s a list of some of the words she’s currently able to say on her own (I’ll try to remember as many as I can): shoe, potty, diaper, water, cheese, please, sock, duck, stuck (these 3 kinda sound the same), apple, Bible (every book is a Bible), bubble (those 3 sound the same as well), pop, Amen, more, dirty, outside, ball, up, down, off, on, eye, mommy, daddy, Charlotte, baby, night-night, bye bye, hi, its a ______, wind, rain, poo-poo (she points to her bottom and says this whenever she has pooped), bow, empty, bread, bottle (sounds like go-go), see ya, got you/it, banana, push, coffee (imagine Scooby-Doo saying this and that’s what she sounds like), wipe, again, no, mine (ugh…), sit, cracker, cookie, go, hold her/me/you, bath, keys, juice, more, hot, cold, block, woah, teeth.
She can also make several animal noises (dog, duck, snake, and a few more).

Raymond and I love being able to communicate with her! She can follow pretty much any instruction that we give her even though she can’t actually say any of those words and she loves repeating words that we say.  I know that the repeating skill will only get worse so we’ve really got to learn how to gain control over our tongues!  Abigail LOVES singing songs; I think her favorite is probably “If You’re Happy and You Know It” :)  She does all of the motions and makes Charlotte do all of them too!

I’ve noticed this past week that Abigail really does love a good routine and for everything to be exactly the same as she is used to (foreseeable control issues when she gets older??).  She is remembering the things that we do consistently from day to day and she anticipates them…that’s been a lot of fun :)

Abigail is working on her 13th & 14th teeth!  She has 4 molars and 4 front teeth each on the top and bottom.  These newest ones that are popping up are her bottom canine teeth (hopefully the top ones will pop up pretty soon after the bottom ones)

I have some videos that I plan on putting on the blog soon, but here are some photos!

Happy 2 Months!

Weight – 11lb 3oz (50%)

Height – 22.25in (50%)

Head – 38cm (30%)

Diaper – size 1/cloth

Clothes – mostly 0-3 month & sometimes 3-6 month

730 – Wake up & Nurse
830 – Nap
1030 – Wake up & Nurse
1130 – Nap
130 – Wake up & Nurse
230 – Nap
430 –  Wake up & Nurse
530 – Nap
630 – Wake up
7ish – Nurse
730 – Bed
A dreamfeed before I go to bed (anytime between 10 & 11:30)

So that’s an ideal schedule which means that those times can vary by 30 minutes either way especially if we have places to go in the morning.  And you’ll notice from the schedule that Charlotte is sleeping through the night!!  Its amazing how much more competent I feel during the day when I get unbroken sleep…the sleep deprivation definitely hit me harder this time around!

Charlotte took very well to a schedule and learning how to fall asleep by herself! And we crossed the 8-week milestone that gave Abigail problems with her naps with no incident.  I’m a definite believer in swaddling from day 1 for that reason :)  Seeing as how we made it to 2 months and she’s sleeping really really well (night and day) I decided just a couple of days ago to take the swaddle away and put her down to sleep on her belly.  She was already breaking out of the swaddle a lot and I was getting tired of reswaddling in the middle of nap and in the middle of the night.  This transition went really well and she seems to be getting normal amounts of sleep…yay!

One thing I love about Charlotte is that its really difficult to get her to an overtired state.  Which is great because there are a few mornings during the week that are guaranteed for us to not be home (and she doesn’t sleep well in her carseat).  So even if she doesn’t sleep much in the morning then I know that she’ll take a solid 3-hour nap while Abigail’s napping!

Charlotte is also smiling socially and starting to laugh a little…such a reward!

Happy 1 Month!

SO sorry for the tardiness of this post!  Hopefully we’ll be able to keep up with these updates from here on out :)

Charlotte turned 1 month old on March 11 and it’s just so hard to believe how fast the time seems to be going by!

Her 1-month well check was great and the doctor said she was healthy and growing appropriately.

Weight – 9lb 7oz (50%)

Height – 21.5in (50%)

Head – I can’t remember :)

Diaper – Size 1/cloth

Clothes – mostly 0-3 month

Schedule – hahaha! Seriously though, I made a decision to not put her on a schedule since I knew we would be traveling for Cortney’s wedding on Mar 10. So, we were kinda just going with the flow before the wedding and started the scheduling/crying it out process afterwards :)

Charlotte does eat about every 2-3 hours during the day and every 3-5 hours at night. She has been much more unpredictable during this first month than Abigail ever was so that’s been a new challenge.

Abigail has been slowly adjusting to this new little addition to her life.  The first few weeks were pretty weepy and emotional, and she went through a super frustrating eating strike for a few days, but she seems to be back to normal (whatever normal is!).

I’ll include pictures in the next post since I’m doing them back-to-back :)
